8 March 2015 Mornington to Cranbourne and back

Up and out for breakfast in Main St today. We thought we’d stumbled on an elderly citizens’ meeting as they kept arriving and sat at all the tables in front of the TV! I think we’d taken up one of their tables! Bircher muesli with macadamia nuts, strawberries, pear and yoghurt was very good. Pat had poached eggs again.

Jacquie picked us up and took us to her place. We met her kids, Kelly and Sam, and her husband, John. Kelly and Sam came with us to the Australian Garden in the Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne. I was excited as they also had a Textile Exhibition featuring spectacular quilts. The others had not see such elaborate creations.

We all wandered around the Red Sand Garden, Arid Garden, Weird and Wonderful Garden (yes that’s it’s name) and many lakes with water features. There were some strange and exotic flowers and plants with peculiar Latin names but also some we have in our garden at home – such as the kangaroo plant (now pulled out as it got too overgrown). And some from Peter’s 60th birthday garden. Have a look at the pictures on Facebook. They really tell the story better. It is very spectacular.

After the garden it was off to Jacquie’s mother-in-law’s (Sue) place in Cranbourne for lunch. She lives in a retirement village to die for! The facility is huge with swimming pool, gym, bowling green, community centre with pool tables, dance classes, craft room, hairdresser, doctor, happy hour – the list goes on. Pat and I are thinking of putting a deposit down for a house. Sue and David’s place is bigger than our house with everything you need at your fingertips.

Back to our unit for a quick freshen up and another walk around Mornington foreshore to the left of Mornington Park. We found a bush track away from the hordes of tourists swarming around the place. By this time the sun had come out and we had to share the place with millions of others. Pat and I earned our dinner at a Chinese restaurant called Soy that is upstairs on Main St. Mongolian beef and a fruit tingle cocktail for me and stir fried veggies with cashews and a mango daiquiri for Pat. Mmmmmmm! Then back to the unit for our last night. Boo hoo. We have really had a great time.
